La Pizzaiola (Steak Pizzaiola)

Steak pizzaiola is a traditional Italian dish that’s really easy to prepare!

Execution: Easy
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 15-20 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients:

  • 4 large slices of veal leg

  • About ten cherry tomatoes

  • 200 g of crushed tomatoes

  • 1/2 onion

  • 10 pitted green olives

  • 2 tablespoons of capers in salt

  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

  • All-purpose flour

  • Salt

  • Pepper

How to Prepare:

Place steak between 2 sheets of plastic wrap. Using a meat mallet, lightly pound until 5mm thick

Lightly flour the veal slices. Heat the oil in a pan, sauté the chopped onion until golden, then add the meat and brown it over high heat for 3-4 minutes on each side.

Add the cherry tomatoes cut into quarters and let them soften slightly, then add the crushed tomatoes, capers (previously soaked in water and squeezed), and the green olives sliced into rounds.

Let simmer for another 5 minutes, season lightly with salt, and add a grind of pepper.

Serve the steak pizzaiola hot with lots of sauce and crusty fresh bread (and perhaps even a side salad of fresh rocket leaves dressed in olive oil and a dash of balsamic).
